Jan-Dirk Adams (1995, NL) is an emerging visual artist and based in The Hague, NL. He has shown his work in several exhibitions in The Netherlands as well as internationally in Istanbul, TR, Munich, DE, Venice, IT, Stockholm, SE. His practice consists of drawings, paintings and small sculptures that focus on his daily experience both socially as well as physically. Themes like love, individuation and longing play an important role in the work.
Show me slowly is an exhibition about love. In it Jan-Dirk Adams brings together a group of recent drawings, paintings and wall sculptures.
The work depicts a variety of everyday traces, faces, images, and objects — taken apart and brought back together into fragmented portraits of people, places, and moments. The magnetic character of these works hinges on a particular combination of figurative and abstracted forms in swirling and often unexpected compositions. Through his use of scale and loose mark-making, Adams manages this tension with a warmth and intimacy. It feels like the things that are shown altogether hide between a single moment.
